Wolverine Advanced Materials approaches customer-specific solutions through minimizing noise and vibration proximal to the source and eliminating the potential for multiple noise and vibration paths.
Controlling the complex range of structure & airborne noise and vibration demands the engineering expertise and diversification/depth of material alternatives offered by Wolverine Advanced Materials.
We achieve optimal solutions through a consistent and rigorous engineering approach.
Examples of components that can feature Wolverine vibration damping and sealing materials include:
- Oil pans
- Timing front covers
- Case to case transmission separator plates
- Baffles / cam covers
- Generator covers
- Closure panels & latches
- Structural brackets
Wolverine Advanced Materials has the product depth and diversification to meet the electronic OEM, ODM and component supplier challenges through a technical team of experienced and highly skilled design, analysis, development and manufacturing engineers.
We provide a "total system engineering approach," dedicated to deliver the highest value product solution. Our material and product portfolio depth in providing isolation, sealing, insulation and damping alternatives provides assurance that the application is optimally tuned for customer specific project requirements.
Our commitment for excellence in the final system performance begins with quantitative analysis and assessment of existing or prototype designs with respect to performance targets/requirements through modeling and measurement.
Our three (3) step process - Isolation, Sealing/Insulation, Damping - to optimize electronic system performance establishes the design direction in applying specific Wolverine Advanced Materials product solutions to properly balance the system performance parameters.
From a history of the first brake applications to today's sophisticated systems, Wolverine Advanced Materials has continued to be an industry leader in the area of brake shims and noise insulators. Our brake customers have come to rely on Wolverine experience, flexible service, material diversity and development competence. To meet application demands, we combine substrates, elastomer coating, attachment type and adhesive layer in different formulations to arrive at economical products incorporating new solutions.

Our elastomeric coatings (NBR, HBNR and FKM) are specifically formulated to meet critical product demands:
- Durability in modern refrigerants and compressor oils
- Resistance to high temperature and pressure
- Superior noise reduction from viscoelastic coatings

At Wolverine Advanced Materials, we dedicate our experience and expertise to the formulation and compounding of a wide range of vibration damping and sealing materials. We bring the full capabilities of our product development, testing and validation staff to developing the materials most appropriate for each sealing or damping application.
We utilize a wide range of substrates in our coating operations, including cold roll steel , non-corrosive stainless and galvanized and aluminum. We use these for application of our proprietary compounds:
Steel-N®: Steel base, coated with an oil-resistant, specially compounded nitrile rubber and a release coating to facilitate removal. This product has exceptional tensile and compression strength, while providing excellent sealing characteristics. Recommended for high-temperature fluid sealing applications where torque retention is critical.
Foamet®: Crosslinked, chemically blown compounded nitrile synthetic rubber, bonded to steel or aluminum base. Good temperature resistance, compression set and torque retention. Foamet is recommended for sealing uneven or stamped flanges.
Alum-N®: Aluminum alloy base, coated with firmly bonded nitrile synthetic rubber and release coating. Superior tensile and compressive strength and sealing characteristics. Used where corrosion or weight is a factor.
Lamiseal®: A conformable paper-based product, held to both sides of a steel core with metal tangs made by holes pierced in the steel core. This material is designed for EGR and similar applications that require high temperature resistance up to 1600º F (870º C).
HNBR is appropriate in applications that require slightly better temperature resistance than NBR – including head gaskets and intake manifold gaskets if higher temperatures are encountered in the application. HNBR has higher heat resistance than NBR, and will function without degradation when exposed to temperatures that are about 15º C higher than NBR can withstand.
Fluoroelastomer can be used in diesel and gasoline engine head gaskets and other applications that require exposure to temperatures that are considerably higher than what NBR and HNBR can withstand. Fluoroelastomer can be subject to temperatures about 75º C higher than what HNBR can withstand without degradation.
